2008-2009 Full Day Kindergarten

For 2009-2010 School Year Information Click Here

Class size
Class size begins at 20 students but may rise to the average size of other regular kindergarten classes if those classes are larger.

Curriculum
The regular district kindergarten curriculum provides the base for this program.

There is additional emphasis upon problem-solving skills, language development, and language experience activities.

The extended time allows more in-depth study of curriculum units and opportunities for the development of social skills in both individual and cooperative group formats. A rest period, physical activity period, and lunch are incorporated into each day.

Students are combined with other kindergarten students for various academic activities.

Selection
If more than 20 students register for full day kindergarten, a lottery drawing will be held. Once notified, parents have five days in which to pay a non-refundable deposit of $25.00 plus half of the first month's tuition to assure a space in the class. Payment is made at the building site. Students assured a class space, who qualify for free and reduced meals, may participate in the 3% district scholarship lottery. If you wish to participate please notify the school secretary and complete the free/reduced qualifying form. The 3% scholarship lottery will be conducted two weeks after the building lottery.

Principals will determine each year, based upon available space and staff, if they are able to offer a full day program. Following registration and the lottery, principals will determine if sufficient need exists to provide the program for that year.

Eligible Students
Registered students interested in the full day program will be included in the lottery. If the class is not filled, enrollment will be open on a first come, first served basis. Students may register and participate in only one building lottery.

Out-of-district students will be allowed to enroll on a space available basis on the first day of the school year. Students who move out-of-district during the school year may continue the program for the duration of the school year.

Cost
Parents will be charged tuition to cover the unfunded portion of the full day kindergarten program, including additional materials, supplies, teacher time, educational assistant time, and the administrative costs of processing tuition checks. Tuition also supports the 3% scholarship program.

The cost of the program will be $(check with office), payable in several payment options. Please see the agreement form for available options. The cost of the program for students selected in the 3% district scholarship lottery is $(check with office) if qualified for free meals and $(check with office) if qualified for reduced meals.

If you have further questions concerning the program, please call the Office of the Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent at 837-7025.
