Early Childhood Education Program (ECE)Services for children with developmental delays
The Issaquah School District is committed to providing every child with the opportunity to achieve his or her highest potential. In order to better serve special-needs children between the ages of three and five, the Issaquah School District has developed a continuum of services. These services are summarized briefly. If you have further questions, please contact Claudia Clement at 425-837-7535. ECE Classroom Eligible three and four year olds may participate in a district ECE classroom. In this program, each child's learning goals are addressed in large and small group activities. Additional support services are provided as needed by the speech and language pathologist (SLP), occupational therapist, and school psychologist. Parent participation is actively encourage as part of the educational team, through participation in the classroom, parent groups, workshops and home programs. Kindergarten Classroom Most kindergarten age children participate in their home school's regular kindergarten program, with additional services and support as needed. a smaller classroom environment is also available to kindergarten age children who would benefit from a more intensive educational program. Support Services Only Articulation, language, fluency, and voice therapy are provided for eligible preschoolers with speech and language difficulties by speech and language pathologists (SLP). Gross and fine motor therapy services are also provided for children who qualify for this support. Individual Education Plans Individual goals and objectives are developed for each child. Goals can address motor, language/communication social, self-help or cognitive concerns, and are pursued by a team made up of a teacher, speech and language pathologist (SLP) and occupational therapist. Additional support services are provided, as needed, by the school psychologist and nurse. Screenings Free screenings are provided for children between the ages of three and five to identify preschoolers with learning problems.
